Susan Takes a Tumble......

Too bad the video camera wasn't going at the time.... My Mom and Wayne bought me in line skates and I went to get my knee and wrist pads today and I was ready to head out 45 min ago with Paul and Danny around the neighborhood. Well, not more than 10 feet away from the front door....the skates were rolling and rolled too fast for Susan and my feet came up and back I went HARD on my tailbone and back. OUCH. Paul came right over and said, "you OK?" Danny was horrified. So, I came back inside and got myself a cold drink. But don't u worry--it will not stop me from trying again. I guess I need to figure out how to stop and how to fall.

I added some new songs to my IPOD. Check out these songs: Tattoo by Jordin Sparks, Too Little Too Late by JoJo, So Cool...Hollywood by Lumidee, Best Days by Graham Colton, One, Two Step by Ciara, All American Girl by Carrie Underwood.

An Enjoyable, Entertaining, Lively and Charmed Christmas Week!

That's my title for the week my Mom and Wayne were here, but right now I need to head out to the grocery store. Danny and Paul are at the playground. I will write more about the week later tonight or tomorrow. I am still catching up on sleep! :-) More on the holiday week below....

Here's Paul loving his Polar Express Bell (fallen from the Reindeer) Grandma and Grandad got for him! A very special gift indeed!

My Mom and Wayne arrived an hour late on December 20th! When Paul saw them coming down the stairs in the terminal----it was amazing! I was holding him and turned red and tensed up with major excitement and was yelling hi. People around us were quite impressed that he was sooooo excited to see his grandparents! It took forever to get their luggage--but then on to Chester's Hamburgers to meet Danny for dinner. Friday morning took us to the Zoo. We were practically the only ones there. Paul had loads of fun and did not taunt any of the animals. He loved the bears, elephants, giraffe, zebra, lions, kangaroos and the tiger. He loves all those animals but is not fond of birds. We went to dinner Saturday night at Bravo with our friends Diane and Adrian. Paul did not have a good nap that afternoon and so he was a little cranky, but he didn't mind all the people in the restaurant--which is awesome! He used to have a ton of anxiety around large groups of people or crowds. The manager, Jesse, sent over a 3 tier dessert assortment as a special treat. Caramel cheesecake, tiramisu and creme brulee. All were yummy!

Having fun at the SA Zoo!

Being silly at Bravo--where does he get that from?!

With my Mom and Wayne here, Paulie did not wish to go to bed at his usual time or take his nap. It certainly was a chore to get him to sleep all the time. He is like his Mommy and doesn't wish to miss out on anything fun! He had a very fun time Christmas Eve opening a ton of gifts...from my Dad and Jean, Lauren and one from us. His favorites---a small, wood BRIO train set, a piano and a Mickey Mouse Airplane. My Mom got him a very special gift---the Polar Express Bell with a ribbon and the gold train ticket. He has been obsessed with this movie for 3-4 weeks! So it was a memorable gift and I almost cried when he held it up to his ear and shook the bell JUST LIKE the little boy in the movie does at the end. Priceless!!!

Showing us HIS flying technique Christmas Eve.

Grandma and Grandad got him an art easel and all the supplies to go with it! He loves to paint and color. And Paul loves books and naturally Grandma brought this really cute book called The Baby Bear. It is fitting b/c Paul loves animals and Mom and Wayne live in the woods of Northern Michigan and there are bears all around!

I made King Ranch Chicken, salad, rolls and a pumpkin pie for Christmas Eve dinner. We went to 10am Mass on Christmas and then back home to open gifts. I made a fried turkey, corn casserole, jello salad, mashed potato casserole and a chocolate, caramel pecan pie for dinner. We ate around 5:30 so Paul could be with us.

Us adults spent a lot of time playing pinochle and even some poker on Christmas and on Wed night. We had many laughs and silliness during all those card games. Paul took an interest in the cards too. He seemed to be learning the suits and all. That is good since playing cards is a family tradition/thing! I cannot wait until he is old enough to play cards and board games!!!!

Mom and Wayne left early Thursday (Dec 27) morning. I did not cry when I dropped them off at the airport terminal curb. I waited until I was back in the car and headed to Starbucks! We don't know when we will see one another again. That is always a scary thought to me.

Shiny White Car

My car is all spruced up (The Wash Tub was PACKED!) and ready to head to the airport today to pick up my Mom and Wayne. I am so excited to have them here. They are tons of fun!! My carpets are cleaned and I made some cookies. The only think left is to clean off some stuff from the dining room table and make their bed.

Paul and I took the pack n play mattress and sheets to Auntie JoJo at church. Her little Addie Belle is coming in this weekend from Ohio. She is 15 months and the cutest thing--next to Paul of course! And while I was there, Craig roped us into serving communion at 10am mass on Christmas Day. We're going anyway--might as well serve!

Danny spent the morning with an ACTS brother. I think they met for breakfast and then had an appt together. Michael has a corvette and allowed Danny to drive it. I told Danny, "great--is he getting us one?!"

Well, Tila Tequila picked Bobby in the finale Tuesday night. And I also watched the finale of The Biggest Loser. No surprise that a man won! BUT, a couple of those gals did awesome and lost over 100 pounds!! I have a friend, Melissa, who probably weighs 120.....so, Julie on The Biggest Loser lost around 123 pounds..so one Melissa! WOW!

Lord, let me be a woman of gratitude. You have given me much; when I think of Your grace and goodness, I am humbled and thankful. Today, let me praise You not just through my words but also through my deeds...and may all the glory be Yours. AMEN

Third Wednesday of Advent

Remember that God is our architect, and we are the houses he is building, here in our own Nazareth. The season of Advent reminds us to acknowledge this. God is the One who opens the door to salvation: "Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God and there is no other." A prayer for today: Father, as the God who is with us, quench all doubt within us. Reassert yourself to us, in all your creative power and glory. As we remember your Son gave up that authority to be born and to walk with us on earth, may our love and loyalty rise up to you, strong and certain, to reassure you that we are indeed your creation. More--we are your sons and daughters. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.

Scripture for the Third Wednesday of Advent - Luke 7:19-23
"John summoned two of his disciples and sent them to the Lord to ask, "Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for another?" When the men came to him, they said, "John the Baptist has sent us to you to ask, 'Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for another?'" At that time he cured many of their diseases, sufferings, and evil spirits; he also granted sight to many who were blind. And he said to them in reply, "Go and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind regain their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the good news proclaimed to them. And blessed is the one who takes no offense at me."

I am busy finishing up getting the house ready for my parents' arrival tomorrow afternoon. I have a nail in one my rear tires and Danny is off right now getting it repaired. Oh what fun....

St. Augustine said, "He who is filled with love is filled with God Himself!" Know that God's love is measureless...and boundless. It is of great comfort to me to know and believe that God loves me no matter what I say or do..as long as I repent and keep moving forward.

Love to everyone!

My Greatest Joy is Also My Greatest Challenge!

The above title is true for me when it comes to: my husband, my son and my home. Naturally, Danny and Paul are my biggest joys..but at the same time..my biggest challenges! Let's leave it plain and simple like that for now.....

I have been sick since Thurs and am not doing a whole heck of a lot better. I was able to steam clean my carpeting this weekend--a hug chore! I had to take time outs along the way as I would get too worked up and became dizzy and had to lie down to rest a bit. Sunday brought lots of ministry work! Danny had to be a Eucharistic Minister at 9:30 mass. I visited The Haven and The Laurels from 3-4 to offer communion to the Alzheimer patients and those who live in the assisted living home. I read the Gospel for that day and then did a 10 min reflection. My co-hort, John P., said it went well and job well done! Then I rushed back home to pick up my desserts, Danny and Paul and we headed over to the other side of town for our Teams of Our Lady Christmas party. Melissa and Jesse made a wonderful ham dinner and we each contributed. The kids all did well and even my little man seemed to have fun..despite the chaos. This really is a huge deal, since Paul in the past, doesn't do well with large and loud groups of people. The kids exchanged gifts and then we had a ornament exchange among the adults. We were home around 8:30 and Paul was super tired and oh so ready for bed! So was I really!

This morning brought a visit to see Dr. Odmark for a treatment for Paul...something special called Neurolink. This treatment is supposed to help Paul with his Sensory Issues....eliminate them mostly. We go again Thurs morning and then in a week for a follow up. I am very hopeful this will work wonders. We have friends who took their son a few years ago to Dr. O...keep in mind this child was 5 and used only one word sentences...mine, eat, drink, car, book, help, etc. Upon completion of Neurolink..the follow up appt....this little boy sang Twinkle Twinkle Little Star in the car..on the way home from seeing Dr. Odmark! Incredible if you ask me!
After his appt we came back home to wait for Melissa from Brighton to arrive. Then around 11:30 my friend Lori came over so we could create a resume for her. All was accomplished and I am wiped out. However, there is MUCH to be done before my Mom and Wayne arrive on Thursday. I might take Paul to Kid Space when he wakes from his nap so I can come back home and do some things.

FROM www.mycatholic.com -- today's reading and reflection.
"Listen to Israel, your father." –Genesis 49:2

When a young man falls in love and gets serious about a young woman, the time soon comes to bring her home to meet his family. Often this is a time of some anxiety. His worst fear might be: I'm afraid she'll leave me because she doesn't like my folks.

Jesus is the Groom (Mk 2:19) and we are the prospective bride. In Matthew's Gospel, Jesus introduces His ancestors before we get serious about our relationship with Him. It's as if He is saying that we won't be able to love Him unless we also love His family.

Imagine Jesus bringing you home to introduce you to His ancestors: "Come in! First, I'd like you to meet Jacob (Mt 1:2), a master deceiver (Gn 27:5ff). Next, I want you to meet Judah and Tamar (Mt 1:3). They aren't married, and conceived their son through prostitution (Gn 38:18). In this room, I'd like you to meet another prostitute, Rahab (Mt 1:5; Jos 2:1). Now here's a wonderful lady, Ruth (Mt 1:5). We had to go outside of the immediate family to find a worthy one like her (Ru 1:4). Over here is one of my favorites, David (Mt 1:6), a man after My Father's heart. Well, he did have a child through adultery with Bathsheba (2 Sm 11:4), and he did kill her husband and many others. Meet Solomon (Mt 1:7), the wise one of My family. He set a world record for lust, and his son Rehoboam (Mt 1:7) caused a civil war (1 Kgs 11:4; 12:13ff). Did you get to meet Manasseh? (Mt 1:10) He'd fit right in with today's 'culture of death' (see 2 Kgs 21:16)..."

Will you decide to walk out on Jesus? Or do you love Him enough to stay and love those He loves (1 Jn 4:20-21). Then He will adopt you into His family (Mk 3:34-35).

R E S C U E not R E S P E C T

Let me start this entry by saying that I am VERY sick with one of the worse sinus infections ever. I went to the DR yesterday. Master Paul has been sick since Sunday with congestion and a cough at night. I knew what all the drainage meant...ear infections are coming. So yesterday afternoon..off we went to see Dr. Brandy McCray. Yep---poor little man has 2 ear infections. We are quite the pair! We switched to Brandy a few months ago and I absolutely love her and she is so good with Paul!! I would highly recommend her to anyone here in SA!

So tonight my little man was pretty tired at 6:30...just like last night. He actually grabbed his silky blanket, grabbed my hand and led me into his room to change into pj's and read books and then off to bed. One of the books is a visit to the Sesame Street Firehouse. Elmo sees a truck and it is spelled R E S C U E..although when I read it (silly tone of course) I belted out R E S P E C T. What does that tell you?! A. My brain is fuzzy and B. I love Aretha!

Another first occurred tonight with Paul. Paul has Sensory Integration Disorder and has struggled with communication skills. He can label and identify almost anything, but has not used those pragmatic skills. Well, he is starting to, but not consistent yet. After his nap today..he climbed in his chair and said, "I hungry." Keep in mind I am a sensitive (SUPER) and emotional gal..I almost cried! AND when I asked, "want pudding?"...reply was "no." "want cookies"..reply was not yes..but a smile. I went with it!

Danny is taking a CFP test tonight. He is worried about it and thinks it was going to be super tough. If he doesn't pass..he can take it again after Christmas, but it would be nice he passed and didn't have to think about it! Paul and I prayed for Daddy around 6:10 tonight. Let's hope it helped!

My ACTS sister and friend ZZ sent me this incredible link to an awesome video of The First Gift of Christmas. A must see for all! Imagine me singing...or not. If you attend Holy Trinity Catholic Church...imagine Meliza singing this ever so slow and sweetly...the first Christmas gift came from above.....wrapped in starlight, tied with love...given with joy, a sweet baby boy...a gift for you and me.

My Mother's Helpers came over this morning for a little while so I could run errands in the cold and rain. Probably not too smart given my current sick level. One of those lovely errands was to get my face waxed. Well, I only wanted my eyebrows done, but she convinced me to do my lip, chin and a little on the side of my face--each side. Hormones suck and getting old! And it is true--beauty does hurt!

Mafia Princess

That was my nickname in college...my sorority to be more precise!

Mafia Princess
We know a guy, who knows a guy, who can hook you up with some grade-A gems.

He’ll take you to the Viva Mafia site, where you’ll meet two unique collections: Viva and Malee. Both consist of nature-inspired necklaces and earrings, but Viva’s simple, clean lines differ from Malee’s denser set.

Every moll needs the sweet, girlie tilt of Viva, captured in dainty cutouts of birds on a wire, leaves, flowers, and pants and dresses on hangers. It’d be criminal to miss out on Malee’s bolder designs, like hearts and daisies encased in circle charms and dangling earrings.

Viva Mafia’s striking signature piece — a cluster of vines entwined with blossoming buds — will spawn a mob of admirers. Any piece you pick adds some oomph to your outfit.

Surely, an offer you can’t refuse. :-)
Available online at vivamafia.com

A shout out to my brother-in-law Chris Niño---his birthday is today! Shall I tell the world your age dude....44!!! In his middle 40's now! Don't sit on the floor bro..you may not be able to get back up. :-)

It’s the most spendingful time of the year

I have one more gift to purchase! I should be able to get it done by Saturday. A purse for my Mom. There are even 3 gifts wrapped and under the tree. Of course all the presents for the folks in STL, Denver and Houston have been wrapped and sent.

I visited the dentist today...fun fun fun. David is so good though and nice to be around. Lupe is a hoot...we laughed a lot today and probably were a little too loud. Sorry Dr. Seguin. Paul visited Kid Space while I was under the drill and Melissa saw him there. Her report stated he did well and she was so proud of him! Yeah for Paul! He certainly LOVES praise!!!! I don't know where he gets that trait...?! :-)

He and I did some more OT work this afternoon and he painted 3 pictures. He has some imagination....like his cousin Lauren. He is still not feeling 100% and is already in bed. He was ready for a bath at 6:50 and ready for sleep. It was so cute Sunday night as I drove the babysitter home. She said, "I have never babysat a kid who wanted to go to bed." I told her..."Audrey, I worked hard at training him and when you become a Mom in 15 years (she is 14 now)--remember to call me and I will tell you how to train your child." I learned it from ZZ, Erin, Stacey and probably other Mom's.

Dare I admit this next thing.....I think the finale to Tila Tequila/A Shot At Love is on tonight. Will she pick Bobby (the guy) or Dani (the gal)?!

Miss Audrey ROCKS

It was a productive day around the Niño home. Danny got ALL the leaves raked and sucked up and spit out into trash bags and he put up our outside Christmas lights. I finished decorating the tree, made a cake for my MOPS meeting tomorrow, did 3 loads of laundry and hung out with Paul. Later in the day it was time to shower and get pretty for the St. PJ's Children's Home Board of Directors CHRISTMAS PARTY. Paula and Doug Miller were hosting the soiree at their home. Home is not really the word...mini castle might be a better term. Doug is a member of the BILL MILLER BBQ Family. (And sadly...no fried chicken was served.) Good eats, good fellowship and Christmas Carols were sung before Paula would allow anyone to leave. She is an awesome faithful Catholic gal with some spunk! She is on the Board with Danny and serves on his Education Committee at the children's home. I found out she is originally from SA..went to UTSA and taught 3 years at St. Gregory Parish School. They have four lovely children. We met the 2 youngest girls tonight. The other 2 (son and daughter)--away at college...but coming home soon for the holidays!

I went to church at 6:30 to pick up our babysitter extraordinaire--Miss Audrey. She is a freshman at Reagan HS. She sings in the Life Teen Choir at 5:30 mass. She is too cute and so much fun to be around. We arrived back home around 10 and on the way driving Audrey home...she and I saw a fox running around on Canyon Golf Road. We had a fun talk...she is a lot like her Mother, Julie...who is my friend. She is also a faith filled young woman with great leadership skills..whether she knows it or not. I do! Her Dad, David--is my dentist and "spiritual advisor." David is in the deaconette program at Oblate. I think he has 3 more..maybe 4 years before he will be a Deacon. I can't wait!!!

Audrey, Julie and Bridget Seguin....at their house last weekend for David's birthday bash!

Paul woke up today from his nap--sick. He has a runny nose AND congestion. He didn't eat much dinner and I was just in there comforting him. I think it will be a rough night. So, I am off to get some sleep before he wakes again and needs his Mommy.

Peace be with all of you....

Tired of Migraines....

I have been suffering from migraines the past 3 months and another one hit yesterday. It was awful. Around 3pm I began throwing up....my head hurts so bad that is makes me nauseous. By 7 I had another numb left arm and the shakes. I suppose it might be time to visit the doctor. This morning is better..but my head still hurts a little and I am drinking some gatorade to get some hydration back.

Supposed to have lunch with 3 ACTS sisters today in Bracken Village and I have so much to do around here. Our tree is up..not completely fluffed though. I would like to get it decorated tonight..pending I feel up to it. It is HUMID and something like 72 degrees this morning--UGH! Where is the cooler weather?! And why can't we simply demolish cedar trees? They are UGLY anyway and produce that awful cedar that is in the air for 2-3 months making everyone sick and cranky!

And can I just say how incredibly pissy it makes me when anyone does not return my call?! Family, Friends, service people, drs, etc. I am going to start doing the same as everyone else...being insensitive, rude, thoughtless, uninterested in how anyone is doing.....!! Ya know, my life is overwhelming too and I have lots I am involved in..but I always return calls!

Totally Flaming

There, in the corner.
Tall, sleek, handsome, smokin’!
And a tight ergonomic grip.

Is it getting warm in here?

Reach for the HomeHero fire extinguisher. The designcentric lifesaver is snuffing out the cumbersome red tank. Simple, intuitive construction takes over: compact size, large safety pin for easy identification, sturdy rubber foot, molded grip with single-hand trigger. The futuristic, glossy white canister is attractive (and unobtrusive) enough to sit on your countertop (rather than hide under your sink) — which makes it easy to reach in case of emergency.
So you can go from zero to hero in no time flat.

Wow---interesting concept in this picture....a man doing the laundry...with his HomeHero extinguisher right there on the dryer! Impressive!

My little man is getting so big!

Here are the latest pics of Paul Gilbert Niño. I took him to Portrait Innovations. I certainly do not like the pics/poses as much as Maile's, but I only wanted a quick shoot and spend $50 or less. I am saving my money so Maile can take our family pic next May/June and Paul's 3 year old shots. By then I WILL have lost my 30 lbs!! Can I get an AMEN!

Vanessa from Brighton was here for 80 minutes today and had lots of things to say and help to offer. Paul will start going to the Brighton School (5 min from my house) beginning the end of January one day a week for 90 min. Vanessa will be with him and I can run errands or come home and relax. This morning we played and he wanted to paint. I think he wanted to "show off" for Miss Vanessa. He loves to paint and has quite an imagination!!! I love when he paints!

I've Been Tagged

My high school classmate, Colleen, tagged me. I don't know if I REALLY KNOW 7 people who have a blog.... Ah, well, so here’s the fun:

The rules of tagging are as follows: 1. Link to the person that tagged you and post the rules on your blog. 2. Share 7 random and or weird things about yourself. 3. Tag 7 random people at the end of your post and include links to their blogs. 4. Let each person know that they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

Seven weird things about ME:

1. When I was in high school I wanted to be a SOLID GOLD DANCER..remember Colleen?!

2. I can make myself burp and can do it 100 times in a row!!

3. When I am tired--I run my fingers through my hair.

4. I don't like men to give me a pedicure. (I think they secretly get off on it!)

5. I have had several nicknames.....Crazy, Precious, Bunny, Basil, Sus, SueSwan, SuSu (some are still used!)

6. I clean my baseboards in my home once a month.

7. You could play connect the dots with all my moles on my back and tummy!

I will tag these people: Maile, Kelly, Erin, Paul, Barb (I need to come back to this..Paul is awake!)

The Kansas Jayhawks Are Seeing Orange

Rock Chalk Jayhawk! We're headed to the BCS Orange Bowl. Our first trip to Miami since 1969--the year I was born. I am "juiced" over this invite and look forward to cheering my team to a victory on January 3!!! The Jayhawks will play Virginia Tech, which boasts an 11-2 record and ACC championship. This will be a rough and tough game!

The Season of Life

Howdy ya'll! What is your current Season of Life? Mine----full time Mom to a handsome 2 1/2 year old toddler named Paul. Went to MOPS today and we heard an incredible speaker. Her name is Dawsie Meek. She spoke to our group 2 years ago and she was fabulous again. Recall the story of when Jesus was born....there was no room at the inn. How many of us fail to make room for Christ in our lives?! Dawsie talked this morning about 3 areas where we tend to forget/fail to make room for Christ.

#1 - our words!!! Griping and Complaining crowds out Christ. Think about it now friends..this is sooooooo true!!!! When we gripe and complain--we are going against God. Psalm 142:2 says, "with full voice I cry to the LORD; with full voice I beseech the LORD." Try this discipline -- tell God all your fears, gripes and frustrations. He can handle our honesty. Share your heart with God. In other words--make room in your life for confession and praise. Psalm 55:2 says, "Listen, God, to my prayer; do not hide from my pleading."

#2 - Our Actions!!! Know that who we are please God. Dawsie discussed how much our society is on information and choice overload. She challenged us to the discipline of solitude. Now, this is difficult for me....since I love to be around people and talk..and talk..and talk! We a ll need to pull away sometimes and spend that alone time with God. During this quiet time is often when God reveals things to us. Hebrews 12:3 says, "while keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the leader and perfecter of faith. For the sake of the joy that lay before him he endured the cross, despising its shame, and has taken his seat at the right of the throne of God."

#3 - Attitude! Selfishness crowds out Christ. Dawsie is a control freak..as am I. We must surrender to God's plan/will...not want to follow our own plan. Trust me--I do know this is not an easy thing for many of us..most of us probably! And so we also need to surrender our control! An image to help is...stretch out your arm and grasp your hand...control!!! How does God want our hand....yup...opened up! Philippians 2:3 says, "Do nothing out of selfishness or out of vainglory; rather, humbly regard others as more important than yourselves."

We're putting up our Christmas tree tonight. No ornaments until the weekend, but we want Master Paul to get used to the tree being up and in "his" way. :-) I now have some things I would like to accomplish while the lad is asleep.

And as we are now in the Season of Advent -- turn to Jesus Christ to help you recharge your batteries. Lift your hearts and prayers to Him. He renews our strength. Something profound I thought of yesterday-- the challenges of today will soon fade away, but God's love endures forever! AMEN

Happy Birthday Oreo

Miss Oreo Marie Niño is 4 years old today! Here is our sweet puppy dog relaxing in the house. She is the bestest doggie of all times! Danny gets after me when I cry to think about that one day...she won't be around. I hope it's another 12years+!!!!

I had my annual gyn appt with Dr. Gallagher today. Before my "exam" we talked about Maile, the Kansas Jayhawks--football and basketball, Kansas City (we both love it there) and about Paul. She said, "everything looks good." Of course it does Mary Shannon! :-) We agreed that I would not have a mammogram this year. Had one last Dec...will wait until next December.

After my appt I met my friend Carmen for lunch at Sea Island. We had a nice visit, but all that friend food has upset my tummy. I need to try and find a sitter for Paul tonight so we can attend a birthday party for my "spiritual advisor." Please pray I will be successful...

As we complete the month of November and enter into Advent Season..let us all remember this:

Over two thousand years ago, God presented the world with His ultimate gift--baby Jesus. Make Jesus the heartbeat of your home. Rejoice in God's blessings and praise Him. May the true Christmas spirit, which was born with a babe in Bethlehem, dwell forever in our hearts.

We Can't Both Look Good. Is It Me or The House?

Think about that question..seriously...... Although initially I intended for that thought/question to be be silly.

Paul and I watched The Polar Express tonight. For the most part, he was mesmerized and you should have seen his face when Santa appeared in the doorway of what I presume is the Town Hall building in the North Pole. And that same face (on Paulie) when the reindeer took off into the dark, clear sky to get Santa all over the world to deliver the presents to the girls and boys. Magical all the way folks!!! He is so sweet and cuddly.

I had a dental appt this morning with my "spiritual director" and he proceeded to tell me that an old filling has cracked. Probably from all the teeth grinding I do at night. And yes, you guessed it...he also wants me fitted for a night guard b/c my enamel is wearing out. Ho hum...ok, I said. I will do whatever you say Diamond Dave! (inside "family" joke).

Then I visited a pre school to get a tour and talk with the director about possibly placing Paul there next year. It was an awesome place and not too far from our home. This school is NAEYC accredited and I happen to know the lovely gal who runs the school. She is an ACTS sister! And get this..all of you who the saga of our experience at St. Mark's...she knows all about their program and knows Kathy (St. Mark's Co-Director) quite well. Oh Destiny darling.....I can't decide if I should sit you down and convince you to put Drew somewhere else next year.....if you read this....and want to know more..let me know sister! The gal I spoke with today was appalled that Father Kevin (at St. Mark's) never responded in any way shape or form to our letter. Tina--you will like this about Abiding Presence--they have a School Board who report to the church council. I told Frances today that I felt (early on) that the teachers really did not want Paul there and I could sense all the negativity. (and so could my little boy!) Frances proceeded to tell me that when one of her teachers didn't seem to like a child...and the parents sensed it...Frances eliminated this teacher's job. GO FRANCES!!!! I visit another NAEYC school on Thursday at 10am. And I also going to speak with 3 other schools which I believe would also be a good place for Paul..and his Mommy.

Off to watch The Biggest Loser and Dancing With The Stars!

Housewives of Bexar County

Here are 3 hot Housewives of Bexar County. Granted, we had been drinking and just ate a big turkey dinner..and we STILL look HOT! I know you all agree!

ZZ and Erin are sisters.....I go to church with them and we are all great friends! They lovingly invited me to share Thanksgiving dinner with them and their families..at Erin's house. It was a joy filled afternoon. I don't want to seem presumptuous..but I believe that I fit in with the Pruetz's, Devin's and Mylar's! Erin--I must know the brand of the port wine we were drinking..it was devine! I must also say that Erin's turkey was very good and I am a tough critic when it comes to turkey on Thanksgiving. I don't think too many folks can get it right!

I just received this email from Erin.......

It was AWESOME having you here. My family just LOVED you (if you couldn't tell, since they nearly tied you down when you said you were leaving!) and, of course, you were a fantastic addition to the conversation and camaraderie. I'll have to ask Z about the Port -- she bought it!

An entirely different topic from turkey and Thanksgiving...if you have pre school age children, I would like to offer a website that guides you to programs in your zip code who are accredited for quality programs. The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) is dedicated to improving the well-being of all young children, with particular focus on the quality of educational and developmental services for all children from birth through age 8. NAEYC is committed to becoming an increasingly high performing and inclusive organization. Founded in 1926, NAEYC is the world's largest organization working on behalf of young children with nearly 100,000 members, a national network of over 300 local, state, and regional Affiliates, and a growing global alliance of like-minded organizations. These programs tend to have teachers with college degrees, masters and some have phd's to teach your children. These programs might be better for those children, like mine, who need a little extra patience, love, attention and someone who understands Sensory Integration and or autism..or is willing to learn. Here is a quote from WSJ....... "The primary gauge of quality has been accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children… whose seal of approval is regarded as the gold standard by parents, educators and facilities." WSJ, March 24, 2006
To SEARCH for programs in your area..click on the left Accreditation...then scroll down on the next page and you will see a link (in red)which will allow you to search by your zip code. I am visiting three schools in my area to find the best place for my little man for pre school next September. It starts now, b/c registration is in February for next school year.
Danny and Paul arrived home safely from Houston Sat afternoon...around 4:30ish. We had a quiet family day on Sunday. Danny went to the library for about 3 hours in the afternoon to study his CFP material. Paul napped and I watched a movie in Lifetime..go figure.
We're happy to see the sun today! After P's nap, he and I will go to the playground for an hour before coming home to make dinner.
As Maile said in her blog today...BRING ON CHRISTMAS!!!

KNOCKED UP

Ha--got your attention right?! I am busy wrapping some gifts, doing laundry and filing a ton of papers and stuff...and I watched the movie Knocked Up today. One line in the movie has convinced me that Paul may be an only child.....when she is getting an exam...the oh so smart and savvy doctor says, "ooops, that is your asshole, not your vagina...happens about 5 times day!" YIKES!! No thank you! :-)

In one of my magazines that I have enjoyed reading while Danny and Paul are in Houston....listed songs for different moods. I thought I would share a few...

Best for getting you off the couch: Walk On by U2, On a High by Duncan Sheik, Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves

Best for pushing through an intense workout: Hey Ya by Outkast, Let's Get Loud by JLo, I Predict a Riot by Kaiser Chiefs

Best for picking up the pace: Lose my Breath by Destiny's Child, Zak and Sara by Ben Folds, Skip to the End by The Futreheads

Best for mellowing out: Easy Tonight by Five for Fighting, Windmills by Bliss and Sophie Barker, Beautiful World by Collin Hay

I have to get back to cleaning and organizing. Going to dinner with the gang. "The Gang" incliddes Danny's childhood friends and spouses and friends. Darren and Tisha, Diane and Adrian, Mike and Barney! We're going to Pericos over on Bandera..so a bit of a hike for me, but that is ok. The evening will be full of awesome fellowship and great food!

Note To Self...and Others....

Never run your business like you do your personal life.....!!!!

We had lasagna for dinner - Paul loved it!!! He is eating a few more things the past few days. He would never eat any gummy thing at all -- but now, he will eat those Welch's juice gummies for a snack! He just pops them right in and chews away. Unreal!! Danny agreed to stay home and give Paul his bath and get him into bed, so I could go to church at 7pm. It was a lovely time and I was able to see lots of brothers and sisters! My "spiritual director" David took some time after mass to talk with me about Paul and offered love and support. How lucky am I that he is also my dentist!!! I loved the first reading for Thanksgiving..... from Sirach 50:22-24....
And now, bless the God of all,who has done wondrous things on earth;Who fosters people’s growth from their mother’s womb, and fashions them according to his will! May he grant you joy of heart and may peace abide among you; May his goodness toward us endure in Israel to deliver us in our days.

I am grateful for the growth that God has given me as I welcome and learn to use everything in my life properly, as His gifts. Amen.

God's Love for You!

Make it a project to grasp how much God loves you. Read the following verses slowly and prayerfully, and ask God to make them real to you.

I pray that you ... may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ. Ephesians 3:17-19

Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies (Psalm 36:5)

How priceless is your unfailing love! Both high and low among men find refuge in the shadow of your wings (Psalm 36:7)

Within your temple, O God, we meditate on your unfailing love (Psalm 48:9). But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God's unfailing love for ever and ever (Psalm 52:8).

But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness (Psalm 86:15).

Give thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures forever (Psalm 136:26).

For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: "I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness." Jeremiah 31:3

The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing." Zephaniah 3:17

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: "For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered." No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:35-39

But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions--it is by grace you have been saved. Ephesians 2:4-5

This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 1 John 4:9-10

They Never Get Old....More Blonde Jokes

A blonde was bragging about her knowledge of state capitals. She proudly says, "Go ahead, ask me, I know all of them." A friend says, "OK, what's the capital of Wisconsin?" The blonde replies, "Oh, that's easy: W."

A married couple were asleep when the phone rang at 2 in the morning. The wife (Undoubtedly blonde), picked up the phone, listened a moment and said, "How should I know, that's 200 miles from here!" and hung up. The husband said, "Who was that?" The wife said, "I don't know, some woman wanting to know if the coast is clear."

Unbeaten Kansas...#2 in BCS Poll

For all my friends who are most interested in this TOP news story..I am anyway....Kansas is now 11-0 and will play Missouri this Saturday for the right to play in the Big 12 Championship Game here in San Antonio on Dec. 2. My step-brother and his wife are Missouri grads and so my Step-Dad is a bug Mizzou fan. We have bet $5 on the football and basketball games for about 15 years. Many years..I get $15. Sometimes we send the $5 back and forth in the mail. So, we have our usual $5 bet on the game this Saturday. I am about to call my brother, Brad, to see about a bet with him. He lives outside Seattle and works for Starbucks..so maybe I can win a white chocolate mocha with an extra shot of espresso!! :-)

Danny and I had a date night last night. Dinner at Piatti's and a movie..Bella. Great dinner and awesome movie. The only problem was I had a horrific headache which made me dizzy and nauseated. In the middle of the night, I barfed up all my dinner...not pretty or tasty at all. I was sweating and felt awful the rest of the night....finding it rather difficult to sleep. But, I got my butt up at 8AM and got ready for church. I had to serve Communion at 9:30 Mass today.
Jennifer and Ryan were here taking care of Master Paul. He loves it when they are here and they seem to enjoy him..and Miss Oreo. I think Ryan would take Oreo home in a heartbeat!

Some friends have asked recently, "what does Paul want for Christmas?" His answer is simply, "a donation to the nonprofit Brighton--they are helping me with my obstacles/challenges due to me having something called Sensory Integration, and they are not charging Mommy and Daddy....so to help me would be to help them!"

Danny and my other Longhorn friends and family won't appreciate these jokes..but they came from our good friends..the Murphy's. Terrence went to Texas Tech and thought these were worthy of sharing.....

1. Four UT Longhorns in a car, who's driving? The police.

2. The UT Longhorns have adopted a new 'Honor System'. Yes your Honor, No your Honor.

3. How do the UT Longhorns spend their first week at fall practice? Studying their Miranda Rights.

4. What do you call it, when a Longhorn goes on vacation? Time off for good behavior.

Celebrity Love Match? Angel or Devil?

I took this quiz....Celebrity Love Match. My match is George Clooney. Take the quiz and let me know who your celebrity love match is!!!

The other one I bothered to do was Angel or Devil? Which am I?!!! --- if you said Sweet like Reese Witherspoon...you're right!! Can you feel the love?!

Tort Tort--this one's for you: New York eatery offers $25,000 dessert

The Frozen Haute Chocolate was declared the most expensive dessert in the world on Wednesday by the Guinness World Records. The dessert is a frozen, slushy mix of cocoas from 14 countries, milk and 5 grams of 24-carat gold topped with whipped cream and shavings from a La Madeline au Truffle.

Let me know how it tastes Courtney...AKA Tort Tort!

The Out of Sync Child....Master Paul

Paul has been diagnosed with Sensory Integration Disorder. I like to refer to it as Sensory Integration Difference. (sounds more positive!) There is a great book for parents who have come face to face with this challenge...The Out of Sync Child by Carol Stock Kranowitz. Paul has minor case of it, but nonetheless, he is a child who is out of sync and needs understanding and help to overcome the obstacles. SPD is the inability to use information received though the senses in order to function smoothly in daily life. An umbrella term to cover a variety of neurological disabilities.

The severe parts of his dysfunction includes interacting with others, fear of crowds/large groups and the inability to use pragmatic language skills and he often does not seem to understand what you are asking him. Paul is most definitely a sensory seeking boy. He seems to want more of everything. Bear hugs/being squeezed; fast movement; spinning; chews on items such as furniture, clothes, any object really; likes to push things around; sniffs food and other items; licks and tastes everything; drools all the time. And he is a very sensitive child.

I am taking Paul to see a pediatric ENT this afternoon. We're going to get his hearing tested and see if his adenoids are enlarged.

Last night one of our local TV gals, Shelly Miles, held a fundraiser for Brighton. This is the nonprofit helping Paul. Their services are free to us. Praise God!! Paul and I went as Danny had CFP study group. We said hello to Miss Shelly and then sat down and ate some fajitas. It was very overwhelming for me and at one point, I began to cry. The owner of the restaurant was near me and came right over and chatted with me. Louis reminded me that life is a marathon and we need to keep on keepin on! Amen brother!

** Dear Shelly - it is rather ironic that La Haicienda de Los Barrios was the location for your fundraiser. When I was pregnant with Paul I was extremely ill for 25 weeks and all I really wanted or could eat was Mexican food. So, off we went twice a week to La Hacienda. Then, the manager Josh Riley helped us plan my baby shower there in April 2005. So, when I saw the dinner was going to be there..I thought..we've come full circle..sort of anyway! A huge thank you to Shelly and the staff at La Hacienda for raising money for a wonderful asset in our community! Danny and I are forever grateful for the folks at Brighton and all the support and help we are receiving.

Remember friends..praise God for your struggles too..not just your successes!

Peace....
40 Days Until Christmas!

The Check WAS In the Mail...

Praise God! St. Mark Pre School did the right thing and sent us a refund! No note or call involved..just the check. So mature of them don't ya think?! Oh well...we're done with them.

And I cannot create this entry without a shout out to my Kansas Jayhawks! They routed Oklahoma State Saturday night...43-28! We are now 10-0 and #3 in the College Football BCS Poll! Iowa State is the weekend in Lawrence and then a big showdown in Kansas City--Arrowhead Stadium--for the annual KU-MU game the following Saturday (Thanksgiving weekend). Paul has a new Kansas t-shirt and a KU football! Rock Chalk Jayhawk...go KU!

I went to Kansas City (Overland Park) to visit a sorority sister and her family. I have been friends with Debra for 19 years!!! Half of my life really...... Above are pics of her adorable kiddos. Miss Olivia is 2, as of Nov 3, and Master Logan is 4 weeks old! I had a joy filled time and loved every moment I spent with them! Debra spoiled me rotten with a pedicure Sat morning and then off to Nordstrom Cafe for a yummy lunch and girl talk. We had pizza Sat night and watched the Kansas game. Her hubby John plays the trumpet in their church orchestra. I was lucky to hear a solo performance at church Sunday morning. It was the postlude...and he is VERY good!! They attend Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, KS. A huge sanctuary. Debra said they have around 10,000 families!!! Little Logan is going to play baby Jesus in the church pageant in early December. Debra is a twin and her sister Julie lives in DC. She is working for a while in KC and she came into town on Sunday and came over. She is sweet and I always enjoy seeing her too (two!) :-) Some of you know the story about when Paul was conceived... My friend Evin (whom I met at Fatso's for a KU bsketball game) got married in Prairie Village, KS (where she is from) in early October 2004. We stayed with Debra and John in their "Perfect" Village home. I was ovulating and so we had to...you know..and voila! It worked! So apparently, we needed to go out of state to get the job done! And no...no baby making this time in KS. I went alone and left Danny and Paul to enjoy one another for the weekend!
Paul is waking from a 2 1/2 hour nap...so I must go...but before I check out......a little something for all my friends! For the ability and grace to live God's Will and be open and listen to Him.
Dear Father, God--I need you. I acknowledge that I have sinned against you by directing my own life. I thank You that You have forgiven my sins through Christ's death on the cross for me. I now invite Christ to again take His place on the throne of my life. Fill me with the Holy Spirit as You commanded me to be filled, and as You promised in Your Word that You would do if I asked in faith. I pray this in the name of Jesus. As an expression of my faith, I thank You for directing my life and for filling me with the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Paul Has a Silly Mommy....

But most of you already know that! So, what does a Mommy do when you're driving home from dinner with your 2 1/2 year old in the back seat crying and being rather fussy..about what..who knows?! -- You put on 94.1FM and start break dancing in the car to Janet Jackson's Pleasure Principle.... and now your little boy is belly laughing and clapping and totally enjoying the show.... thank goodness Mommy can drive and dance at the same time! Chalk one up for Mommy SuSu! And when we pulled in the garage and off went the tunes...back to being unhappy! He is MY BOY---the child loves music and dancing and being silly.

Real quick before I work around the house..Paul just went down for the night......

One of my good friends from high school is Kathy Casper. See us above @ the reunion?! We had a special bond for 2 years and then we lost touch. We reconnected at the reunion a couple of weeks ago. She is a third grade teacher in Columbia, Missouri. I got this really sweet email from her today....here are a few words she wrote to me...."It was amazing seeing you at the reunion and I was shocked at the fact that it seemed like life stood still for those 20 years and we picked right back up where we left it!" I AM going to plan something in 2008 so she and I can get together and hang out! She is still tall, pretty, fun, smart and oh so sweet!

Mama - How Long Will You Love Me?

This is the title of a book I purchased a month or two ago to help Paul to finally say Mama. Still nothing.... So, this is a lovely book by Anna Pignataro. Mama bear and baby Sammy bear. A real cute story. The end always chokes me up a little....... my sweet little boy is a blessing a gift from God. How can one love someone so dang much?! Getting back to the end of the story Paul and I read now and then.. a Mama's love is everlasting.. Sammy asks, "Will there always be you and Me?..."Miles and miles forever," whispered Mama. After I say that..Paul says AMEN and the end. SOOOOOO precious. I literally shed a tear or two now and then.....

I had bible study this morning.....the Book of Revelation. We read Chapters 14-16 and answered questions and then discussed in our small groups today. So great--and the support and unconditional love I receive from my fellow sisters and brothers is tremendous and not to ever be diminished or forgotten! I praise God for all the wonderful people in my life. The book of Revelation has so much symbolic language. Keep in mind that Fundamentalists take it literally...us Catholics..do not. Truth be told..I feel after reading these 16 chapters..that we can take comfort in knowing the God is powerful and has our back! If we repent and make good choices in our lives. Do good works; keep faith; strive to offer God's grace to everyone; say covered in the blood of Jesus Christ.....and you will be rewarded! The book in the bible..which is the last book...is really about hope..not the end of the world. John writes about the battle between good and evil. "Our wills are strengthened by prayer, worship, Holy Communion, spiritual development, reading, studying, etc."

Tonight was GNO. For any newcomers to my blog--GNO = Girls Night Out. We visited La Paloma Blanca. I looked around for my high school classmate, Dan O'Grady, who lives near the restaurant and said he and the family go there once a week. But I did not see them. Three beers and many laughs later.....I made it home safely. Danny is studying his CFP info and Paul is asleep of course..and Miss Oreo is waiting for me to come to bed and snuggle. I think she is warming it up for me. :-) Danny stays up until 1am sometimes reading..not me! I need 7-8 hours in order to properly parent Paul.

A shout to my friend Lori Flores. She turned 40 on October 30! I worked with her at Frost Insurance Agency. SHE ROCKS and is a fabulous mother to two teenagers..who also rock!! She and Danny (along with Brent Barry's wife Erin) serve on a local children's home board - St. PJ's.

I cannot sign off the puter without giving you some motivation/inspiration..so here is my best effort at 11:30 at night after a wild night with some fun gals....

Ephesians 2:8-9 " You have been saved by grace through believing. You did not save yourselves; it was a gift from God. It was not the result of your own efforts, so you cannot brag about it!" Accept the goodness of Jesus Christ. Abandon your own works and accept his. Abandon your own decency and accept his. Stand before God in his name, not yours! Father, God, help us to be busy about the right business -- the business of serving you! Amen.

High School Classmate To Appear on the Ellen Degeneres Show this Friday!

Can I get a whoop whoop?!! Yes, it is true---my high school classmate--and friend, Rich Berra, will be a guest on the ever popular Ellen Degeneres Show this Friday. If you live in San Antonio...3pm is the hour to turn on and watch Rich dazzle you! I hope he gives a shout out to his classmates from JFK--class of 87! And maybe a special shout out to his pal Susan in San Antonio!! Can someone in SA TIVO it for me please?? I will be in Kansas City and am not certain I will be able to watch it?! Gracias. Rich is a successful morning show DJ in the Phoenix/Tuscon area. ROCK ON BROTHER.....my brother from another mother!!!! Dang--I wish I could be in the audience..uh, Rich, why didn't you call and get us in babe?!

Paul has occupational therapy today at 2. DeeDee will be arriving, although he will probably still be napping..so I will have to wake him..unless she wants to go over the sensory integration survey and his new sensory diet and other things we can do with him to help me process things better. And remember, today is WED...so it is GNO! I hear we're doing Mexican...but not sure where...so, someone let me know! I can almost taste the salsa and mole. Yummy for SuSu's tummy!!!

Kansas Jayhawks--both the football AND basketball teams are ranked 4th in the country. A first ever (I think) for the Univ of Kansas! ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK....beat the Cowboys. (Oklahoma State --Sat's game)

Sunday, November 4, 2007

Kansas Jayhawks 9-0--Here We Are BCS!

I graduated from the University of Kansas in May 1991. KU is mostly known to be a tremendous and fabulous basketball school. We won the NCAA Championship my freshman year..April 1988! However, this year our football team has gone undefeated and we are the only NCAA school to have both football and basketball ranked in the TOP TEN nationally. ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK...GO KU! Danny has been great about the football team..easier since his team (TX) and KU don't play this year. He and I are hoping they win their last 2 games...Oklahoma State and Missouri. Those will both be TOUGH games.
*****New rankings on ESPN. I viewed this AFTER I first posted this entry and now I need to add something about my Alma Mater. Kansas was ranked eighth in the USA...this week....#4! A couple of the BCS people voted us as #2 -- but the computer average is rank 4. We'll take it!!!! If you could have only seen me when I saw that on ESPN.com......jumping, yelling and running out to the family room to tell Danny of the new rankings!!! All the while keeping quiet b/c Paulie is STILL asleep!!! Danny is a great husband and sports fan--he is super stoked too!!!!!!! Can I what get a WHOOP WHOOP?!!?!!!

Moving on...we attended 9:30 Mass this morning and Master Paul visited our nursery. And of course we saw many of our ACTS Brothers and Sisters..so fun to go to church with so many faith filled, family oriented folks! My good friend (and ACTS Sister) Meliza--is our cantor for 9:30 Mass and she and Fred sang one of my favorite David Kauffman's songs--If You Seek Me. I did a talk on Community at an ACTS retreat in April 2006 and after my talk, played that song. I love it. The song went well with today's Gospel Reading. Apparently, Paul was a little aggressive a few times while in the nursery...pushing kids and such. I guess behavior from pre school have now overflowed into other locations...GREAT! And things were going so well in parish nursery.....ho hum.

Danny and I are part of a couple ministry called Teams of Our Lady. We and Jena Bissaillon hosted an information meeting at church today after 11am Mass. Twelve couples attended and all said YES to becoming involved, and we have 2 additional couples who had already attended a info meeting and wish to join TOOL. Praise God!!! Two teams will be formed and begin in January. This is VERY exciting!

Paul went down for his daily nap around 2 today and as of right now...4:10...is still asleep. Danny has been watching NFL and I ran to the Dollar Store to get items for Operation Christmas Child. We have to turn in our shoe boxes of goodies tomorrow at MOPS. I chose to purchase items for a girl age 5-9. In our box are the following items: socks, toothbrushes, toothpaste, pink combs, hair clips, girlie stationary, pens, fancy pencils, pencil sharpener, gum, harmonica, Disney Princess play rings (set of 6), Disney Princess yo yo, little mermaid doll, crayons, lip gloss and stickers. I need to write her a little note to include in the box. Who knows, maybe our little friend will write to us....

Tonight I need to write a couple of thank you notes and get spiritually, mentally and physically ready for the upcoming week.

From 2 Timothy 1:7, "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, (that is the devil) but of power and of love and of a sound mind." Amen

Below is the refrain from If You Seek Me by David Kauffman. Love, love, love it!!! Enjoy and reflect!
"If you seek me with all your heart
When you search me with all your being
There you will find me and I will restore your soul
And bring you home"

Christmas Wish List

People keep asking..."what do you, Danny and Paul want for Christmas?" I have lots of ideas for Danny and Paul..but have trouble thinking of wishes for me. Oh please....understand there are plenty of "things" I would love to have..but how do you know what is most important and affordable to the people wishing to purchase the items. *Microdermabrasion treatments once a month for a year!
*Big can of macadamia nuts....and a nice bottle of Pinot Grigio--chilled please

Girls Night Out...the saga continues every week...

So, Wed nights are the usual GNO = Girls Night Out. No kids, no husbands, no worries (we try). We try to eat somewhere new and where you might not take your kids. So, an adult kinda restaurant. Tonight we visited SPICE. Awesome food and even better laughs and conversation. Eight of us gals showed up...Tina, Melissa, Maile, Judy, Michelle, Adrienne, Courtney and myself. Above are two of my favorites pics....Artist Extraordinaire Maile. Maile is my sweet friend who is the professional photographer. She is amazing and a lovely person to be around. In fact, she is someone I could travel with and be around 24/7 and never be tired or annoyed. Seriously.....!!!! The other picture is of Ms. Judy. She was telling us a funny story..which I cannot share...but trust me...it was a good one! She is a OT at a hospital in North Central San Antonio.

I am tired, but also excited for the weekend! Chores and errands and spending time as a family.

Remember this friends...God's faithfulness and grace make the impossible possible.

From Psalm 47:1.."Clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy." This verse reminds me of my evening with the greatest group of women..laughing and being joyful! Laughter is a gift from God. I hope God will put a smile on your face each and every day. And that you can share your smile.....as they say..it's the least expensive way to improve your looks!

Peace Out Dogs.....

Meet My Eccentric Elephant Little Man

Isn't he cute?! My Mother says I am not supposed to say how cute Paul is since he is my son..but come on....he's sweet too! We had fun over at the Bissaillon's house and then back home for some trick or treating. Paul had fun and did well saying TRICK or TWEET when the person opened the door. And many times he would say THANK YOU. The other picture is of Captain Philip Sparrow and Lady Sophia. So cute!!!

Paul is napping and I have been folding clothes, picking up toys and emailing some friends. I think I am going to take Paul to a drop in care place I use all the time -- Kid Space. I have an unofficial appt with Mary at Window Fashions of Texas this afternoon. We are FINALLY going to get our faux wood blinds. HIP HIP HOORAY!

Happy Halloween to all my Ghosts and Goblins...

Wow--can you believe it is October 31?! Paul's last day at St. Mark Pre School was yesterday. I will write more about the BIG meeting yesterday, but suffice to say--we are deeply disheartened and sad about the outcome. Especially since we are of the same faith!

Anywho, Paul and I are leaving shortly to meet my friend Donna for lunch. We worked together 7 years ago at Frost Insurance. She now works at Wells Fargo and loves it. I have not seen here in many months. We had to reschedule this lunch date numerous times...and mostly b/c St. Mark's doesn't know how to teach ALL kids!

Tonight we are going to some friends--Jena and Philip--for some neighborhood games and a parade of all the little ones. We went last year and had a grand time. Paul is an eccentric elephant..look for pics tomorrow!

It is a beautiful day here in San Antonio. Blue sky, sun, light breeze and somewhere in the 60's or low 70's. Love it, love it, love it!!!!

Peace be with you friends....

Weekend Adventures

Saturday and Sunday took Danny and I up to Comfort, TX - in the Texas Hill Country. We met up with our team for our annual retreat. We have been a member of an awesome couples ministry called Teams of Our Lady. There are six Catholic couples and we stayed at a lovely B&B called The Meyer Bed and Breakfast. We are very fortunate to have many friends in San Antonio who can and are willing to watch Paul...since we have no family in town to assist with that task. Meliza Wise, who is also our 9:30Am Mass cantor, came early Sat morning to be here with Paul for the rest of the weekend. She is married with 2 wonderful children who I stay with from time to time. You see--it's a swap thing! They don't have family in town either. So it works well for all of us.

The morning session of our retreat was about listening, communication and developing a family mission statement. We started working on our family mission statement and plan to refine it during the week and have one completed by next Sunday. Here we go... "As a family, we will serve the Lord by living a grace and joy filled life. We will strengthen our relationship through family prayer and by bringing our family and others closer to God." We also want to include something about being committed to continual spiritual and intellectual growth - as a family. The idea is to create one, post it somewhere in your home and revisit it every year. It will probably change over time. And as Paul gets older--he can be included in helping to create it. A nice scripture for this is Ephesians 5:21, 25-33.

Also, we talked about communicating pitfalls to avoid with your spouse: garbage dumping (bringing up old hurts), Giving YOU messages, Blaming, using critical judgement, interrupting while your spouse is sharing/communicating, expecting your spouse to change because you shared your feelings, short changing the time together by not spending the full time talking about and continuing to draw out/explore the feeling. And we talked about guidelines for fighting fair for our relationship...b/c that is what we are all doing in our married lives....everything should be FOR OUR relationship...not against it. :-) One point we discussed...."fight for clarification, not to win. If I win a fight then I am sleeping with a loser."
And naturally, we talked about forgiveness in a marriage. This one item will give you the freedom from the bitterness which pollutes lives and marriages.

Then we had 2 1/2 hours for a lunch "date" with our spouse. Of course also included 30 min of shopping in the cute town of Comfort! We went to a nice little restaurant called The Hen House Cafe. I had a yummy Reuben sandwich and Danny had a juicy hamburger. Very delicious!

Back to the B&B for our afternoon session with our couple friends - the topic-- MONEY. And not about how to budget and save..but attitudes towards money. I will write about this while Paul is napping--right now I have to get back to the little dude..I think he is tearing up the family room. :-)

Getting back to our retreat--we talked about how to be a faithful steward. Vicki and George had this awesome book they used for our afternoon session. Danny and I are going to purchase it....around $13. I recommend it for all married couples...and even singles! Putting Money in its Place by Doug Britton. It's part of series on books/bible studies for couples. Good stuff!
From Psalm 24:1, "The earth is the Lord's and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it."
Some basic principles from the book which we discussed at our retreat:
*Acknowledge God's Ownership - God owns everything--your house, cars, clothes, toys, books, etc.
*Work diligently - with a positive attitude; avoid get rich schemes; balance work and rest
*Be trustworthy - be honest on the job; be honest as a couple
*Take care of your possessions - they belong to God
**Remember that God gave you the strength and talent to make money!!!!

And more goodies from the afternoon....

Love God, Not Money - recognize you are citizens of heaven, be aware of the dangers of wealth, realize it is possible to be Godly and wealthy

Be content - get your contentment from God, not circumstances, resist envy and greed, do not give up if you suffer a financial setback

From Matthew 6:33, "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

Oh and if you do read my ramblings from time to time--please leave a comment now and then--even if you simply say hi! Thank you!!

Paul is busy with all kinds of new women in his life....

If you are an adult male---don't you wish you could say that?! Ha

Seriously though, many of you know that our little boy has had some challenges. And while a little bit might be 2 year old things, the majority of his issues is due to a disorder: Sensory Integration. While he doesn't have ALL the symptoms, he does exhibit many and as a result, a local nonprofit in SA is helping him and us--and his teachers. Thank God for people and places like Brighton. Paul has 2 occupational therapists, one speech therapist, a social worker (helping us with his pre school) and a nutritionist. Whew---all lovely, caring, talented and supportive women! DeeDee (an occup therapist) visited us at home recently and gave me what is called a Therapressure Brush--see above. You rub it on Paul's arms, legs and back only and as you "brush" him - put some pressure/muscle into it. Dang--it works like a charm to calm him down. If you have ever had a massage---you know how it calms you and puts you in a trance -- does the same for my little boy.

The first step of the involves providing deep pressure to the skin on the arms, back, and legs through the use of a special surgical brush. An appropriate analogy would be that it is like giving someone a deep massage using a surgical brush. The use of the brush in a slow and methodical manner provides consistent deep-pressure input to a wide area of the skin surface on the body. The face and stomach are never brushed.
Following the "massage" stage, the child receives gentle compressions to the shoulders, elbows, wrists/fingers, hips, knees/ankles, and sternum. These compressions provide substantial proprioceptive input. our goal is for children to no longer illustrate sensory defensiveness which interferes with normal development.

For Paul---should help him deal with other children encroaching in his space.....dealing better with large groups of people and sudden, loud noises. Possibly help him to be less of a picky eater...the need to put everything in his mouth...I could go on and on! Another item we need to try and use at home and in school - Bendeez. Paul can fidget with them and chew on them and therefore might not distract teachers or peers in classroom. And another tool is called the DRIVE THRU MENU cards. It is truly amazing how much is out there to help us parents who are dealing with this issue. Thank goodness I am not working outside the home, or I would not have the time to do all this therapy for Paul and researching and reading and learning in order to help my son. One thing is for certain-- the teachers and staff at St. Mark's need to redirect ANY negative vibes/feelings/thoughts or frustrations...because my little boy senses it and reacts to it. And I might add--reacts in a not so nice manner. Which then only gets the teachers more anxious and all that comes with those feelings. Paul needs calm people around him. And yes, I can be calm those of you who are wondering.... I have seen dramatic changes in Paul over the last 2 months with Mommy remaining more calm and collected.

I need to do some chores around here while Paul is napping. Thanks for reading and I ask for your support and prayers as we continue to move forward with all this and hope it will help Paul and he can develop/grow and attend a Catholic University...oh is that too much pressure for a 2 year old?! :-)

Blessings and joy to all of you!

Even More on Class Reunion..keep reading...

So tonight was GNO. For the new readers of my blog--GNO=Girls Night Out. Every Wed night at 7pm. It was an early evening though as us Mommies were tired. My usual 2 beers went down easy though....and the third was lurking nearby, but I did have to drive home don't you know!

Above are some pictures taken Sat night at my class reunion. Brian Belgeri and his lovely, and very sweet wife, Myra. Don't they make a nice couple?! He got lucky! The other picture is of Elaine, Suzy and Colleen. Elaine was my maid of honor in my first wedding--back in 1992. For those who don't know (which prob isn't many)--John was abusive, we divorced and he was murdered in 1996-and no, I did not do it. Suzy and I were joined at the hip a lot in high school. I picked her and Robbie up everyday for school during our junior year. Suzy was a dancing fool--like me and we also both loved Magic 108 and groups like Shalamar, Midnight Star, Klymaxx, etc. The third lovely gal is Colleen. She was so cute and fun to be around in high school and she is still the same! She lives in WI, while the other 2 gals live in the STL area. Danny heard some interesting stories about high school days and Susan's mustangs...... Not to be repeated here of course...!!!!
The talk among the ladies at the reunion--Tom Fischer! Ladies--you know what I'm talkin about! And nice to see that some things don't change..one gentleman..who will remain nameless for now---was pretty drunk and at the end of the night, when all the lights came on the ballroom, he was stooped over in a chair looking pretty green. I later heard he did puke--but in a respectable place -- thank goodness! So much more to mention -- but I will close tonight with the AFTER PARTY at Helen Fitzgerald's-- is that right?! I think so.....but I am not familiar with the part of town we were in---so off a group of us went. Get this -- the big doorman, yeah, you're right--he did not wish to see any of our ID's---hello?! We are all hot and good looking people here...but I guess he knew....UGH! When we walked in---you guessed it--I think I could have been the Mom to many of the patrons. This is the really crazy thing--it was 12:30 or so and the bar closed at 1am--WHAT? Never heard of such a thing. Myra said the bars in the CITY of St Louis close at 3--so what we were doing there?! More fun conversation and silliness.......I don't know who was being silly -- ok, me. Ask Myra what Susan was doing as the young men walked past her on their way out...?! Thankfully, Danny is cool and doesn't mind (too much) me being silly. I did not want the night to end........it was kind of a weird feeling. I don't want to wait 5 years to see all of these people again.
As usual--I will sign off with a little inspiration/motivation:
"This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." Psalm 118:24
God created this day, and it is up to each one of us to rejoice and be grateful. We give thanks to Him when we treasure each day and use it to the fullest. Whatever the rest of this day holds for you.....always keep God as your partner and Jesus Christ as your Savior. Continue to count your blessings. Each one of you is special and a blessing to me. AMEN
